Woodland Survival Skills (Bushcraft)

Woodland Survival Skills (Bushcraft)

Gain a thorough understanding of what it takes to survive in the wilderness, and optionally earn an Open College Network accreditation

The Woodland Survival Skills (Bushcraft) course is normally taught over an unbroken five-day period. However, it is also available to be studied in three smaller parts:

“Only to the white man was nature a ‘wilderness’, to us it was tame”

Chief Luther Standing Bear
Building a survival shelter

In our homes of electricity and uPVC windows, this statement may seem far fetched, but with a little knowledge and experience you can be comfortable in the forest, and then what awaits you is a whole new world of adventure and discovery.

With this five day course you will be confidently creating fire by friction, building weather shelters, making string as long and strong as you like, and hopefully beginning to grasp the essence of Luther Standing Bear's statement.

Other subjects covered

  • Wild food collection and preparation
  • Water purification
  • Baskets and mats
  • Wilderness furniture
  • Natural navigational skills
  • Tracking
  • Bedding and insulation
  • Whistle making
