Take your bushcraft knowledge and skills to another level

Three-Day Bushcraft Competency Certificate Training Course

Designed especially for Outdoor Centres and Professionals, our Bushcraft Competency Certificate Training three day course will build on your basic bushcraft skills, allowing you to enhance your existing bushcraft/forest school sessions.

As an approved training course with the Institute for Outdoor Learning, you will be able to use this along with a further 100 hours +/- of Bushcraft based experience in order to work towards the Bushcraft Competency Certificate. This award is increasingly recognised within outdoor learning circles as suitable clarification of safe and competent practice.

Whether you are a Forest School Leader, Environmental Education Officer or Outdoor Instructor, you will find the course incredibly beneficial – enhancing your bushcraft knowledge and confidence in teaching.

During the three days you will learn and enhance the key skills of bushcraft, including:

  • Effective shelter building
  • Confident and safe knife skills
  • Successful friction fire lighting
  • Efficient water filtering
  • Inspiring tree identification
  • String making
  • Accurate direction finding
Over the years we have trained many teams in the UK and occasionally overseas. For centres and organisations wanting several staff members trained, please contact us to create your own course.
“After completing the Woodland Survival Crafts 3 day Bushcraft competency training course, I left feeling deeply inspired. Pete and Dave, the trainers, are remarkably skilled professionals. Their teaching methods are not only wonderful but also highly attuned to each learner’s individual needs. I highly recommend this course and look forward to enrolling in future courses with Dave and his team.”

My weekend on your training course was one of the highlights of my year.

Andy Barclay, Cornwall Outdoors

Just a quick line to say thank you so much for the training day last week. Everyone has been buzzing about it. It was truly informative and inspiring. Thanks so much for coming such a long way and giving us such a good day.

Amy Bennett, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust

Just wanted to thank you again for today. Your expertise really came across and it was a pleasure to be able to work with you.
It was a wonderful insight into bushcraft and has left me wanting more! I hadn’t appreciated just how useful natural resources can be and how it can very much link in with conservation too.

Thanks again and I hope to see you in the future!

Benjamin Rees, Shropshire Wildlife Trust

Many thanks again for such a superb course! It has really helped me see the woods in a whole new light and appreciate it from a different perspective! can not wait to get out again to really work on my skills!

James Taylor

Thanks for such an amazing course last week. I’ve returned to Skern feeling a new wave of enthusiasm, and ready to start applying some ideas into what I hope will be a fresh start for bushcraft at the centre. I’ll be sure to keep you updated with how it all goes……

Rupert Loch, Director Feral Science Ltd

After I took one of the Woodland Survival Courses I was offered a place on the Mentoring Scheme. This gave me the support and opportunities to refine my technique as well as share best practise with other mentees over several camps. Dave has consistently encouraged us to explore the limits of techniques and do our own research over a large range of topics. As a result of Dave’s guidance I have had the confidence to develop my own business which uses the Bushcraft techniques I have learnt and refined with Dave to teach a large range of Science topics up to GCSE.

Karen Shephard, Forest School Leader

The Mentoring Scheme has enabled me to extend the basic skills and knowledge I had as a Forest School leader in directions that I didn’t know existed; I have become much more aware of the “Why”, “How” and “What” behind my work, which has given me the confidence to be more thoughtful and flexible in my approach.
